Loftness Unveils Stump Ax Stump Grinder Attachment For Skid Steers & Excavators

Loftness recently launched the new Stump Ax rigid-mount stump grinder attachment that the manufacturer says is compatible with wheel and track skid steers and excavators with hydraulic flow ratings of 30 to 60 gallons per minute (113.5 to 227 liters per minute). Operators can orient the attachment’s 200-cc high-torque radial piston motor to face forward or to the rear, making it handy for working up against buildings or near obstacles. Loftness says repositioning the power unit rather than swinging the cutting wheel enables the Stump Ax to work faster than articulating stump grinder attachments.

An Ax To Grind

The Stump Ax joins Loftness’ lineup of VMLogix vegetation management products that also includes mulching heads, flail mowers, hydraulic oil coolers, a mechanical trimmer, and accessories. The company also manufactures numerous products for agricultural work. Loftness says it engineered the Stump Ax for high productivity, speed, and superior control, and thanks to its angled hitch and forward-reach boom, the grinder also makes it easy for the operator to keep an eye on the cutting wheel as it works.

The Stump Ax grinds stumps with a 31-inch (78.7-centimeters)-diameter Phantom Wheel equipped with 48 Tomahawk teeth from Leonardi. The wheel is designed for durability and fast cutting performance and has cut-outs that create a see-through effect that further enhances operator visibility. The Stump Ax controls chip discharge using a chain deflector for jobsite safety. The attachment weighs 891 pounds (404 kilograms) sans mount and 1,365 lbs. (619 kg) with a skid loader mount. It measures 33.9 in. (86 cm) high by 34.8 in. (88.4 cm) long.
