New Komatsu C124 Harvesting Head Enhances Productivity
Komatsu recently unveiled its updated C124 medium-size harvesting head for 2025. The manufacturer says the C124 delivers fuel savings, easier knife control, a better user experience, greater productivity, and other benefits. Customers who used the head’s prototype concur, reporting smooth operation and efficient feeding.
A New Valve Bank
Topping the list of upgrades to the C124 is a new valve bank that Komatsu says is more durable and requires less energy to run, resulting in a longer service life and fuel savings. In addition, the C124’s front and rear knives have improved pressure control for greater precision, and operators can now use software to make pressure control adjustments without leaving the cab.
Komatsu didn’t stop there. It also improved the hydraulics for tilt functions, leading to smoother operation and potentially higher measurement accuracy during processing. Advanced length measuring, which helps deliver more consistent cuts, is now a standard feature.
Saw Unit & Feed System Upgrades
Also in store for buyers is a redesigned saw unit and a new feed system. The former adds more space around the saw motor, simplifying maintenance. The saw unit also has more clearance between the saw bar and frame to prevent collisions and includes a reinforced, curved base plate that reduces the C124’s ground footprint and enhances durability.
The upgraded feed system performs better and reduces energy losses thanks to high-flow motors. It also has improved hose routing for easier servicing and a longer service life, says Komatsu. Customers can add an optional reinforced hose protection layer to extend hose life.
The Final End
Komatsu’s Final End is another available option that automatically resets length measurements without requiring a new cut, resulting in less waste. For 2025, Final End incorporates a protected lens and debris-resistant design for greater durability. Komatsu also improved centering for small stems, added stronger bushings with better sealing for the front delimbing knives, and included new feed rollers with spikes to enhance the head’s grip and improve measuring accuracy.
The Komatsu C124 Up Close
The C124 has a 40-degree tilt angle, a maximum 24.6-inch (62.5-centimeter) head opening, and a maximum fell/cut diameter of 26 in. (66 cm). It has five delimbing knives and a delimbing diameter of 18.5 in. (47 cm) tip to tip. Komatsu offers a Constant Cut upgrade option that enables intelligent saw control to govern saw motor speed throughout the cutting cycle for greater efficiency.
