Komatsu recently brought more muscle to large timber jobs in North America with the launch of its XF895-3 forwarder for final felling, large-scale forwarding, and tough ground conditions.

The XF895-3 is Komatsu’s largest forwarder, with a 22-ton (20-metric-ton) gross load capacity and 287 horsepower (214 kilowatts) to maintain productivity with longer turns and heavier stems. Komatsu built the big machine for greater loads, smoother handling, and easier service.

    The XF895-3’s Redesigned Load Space

“The XF895-3’s enhancements make it even more well-suited for big log-hauling, final felling, and ground preparation,” says Rob Warden, senior product manager, forestry for Komatsu. “It features a more robust frame for toughness, plus a new, more powerful crane as an option. The load space offers a lot of adjustability for your tasks, such as telescoping width and height adjustments and a fully adaptable gate.”

    XF895-3 Upgrades & Benefits

Komatsu touts several upgrades on the XF895-3 that directly impact cycle times and payload confidence:

    • New, optional 205F crane with improved lift geometry and up to 32.8 feet (10 meters) of reach for loading larger piles or working wider trails
    • Optional G85H grapple with a 4.3-square foot (0.40-square meter) tip-to-tip area for better control on big grabs
    • An upgraded telescopic gate, rugged bunks with a widening function, and optional stakes with height adjustment
    • Reinforced frame and articulating joints for greater load capacity, heavy forwarding, and rough terrain
    • A new, electronically controlled hydraulic pump for improved responsiveness and fuel efficiency, plus a single-filter hydraulic tank for simpler service

Pairing The XF895-3 With The 951XC-1 Harvester

Komatsu says the XF895-3 forwarder is the ideal partner for its 951XC-1 (XH951XC-1) harvester. Introduced in September 2025, the eight-wheeled harvester emphasizes traction, maneuverability, and stability in steep, soft, or rugged conditions.

The automotive-quality cab of the XF895-3 provides the operator with refined controls and comfort throughout each shift. All told, the payload, reach, and uptime updates of the new forwarder translate to better production in heavy logging operations.
