    About Slasher Saws

    CSI DL-4400 Slasher Saw

Slasher saws, also referred to as “sawmills” and “ground saws,” are used to cut one or more delimbed logs down for easy transport on a logging truck. Logs are placed in the saw’s steel-framed cradle, where a circular blade or chain and bar saw emerge from the saw box to make the cut. Many slasher saws are stationary and sit directly on the ground, but there are mobile models that either have built-in wheels or can be mounted to a trailer for towing to and from worksites. Manufacturers typically offer optional add-ons and custom configurations as well, which may include extended folding or stacking chassis, reversible saw boxes, and more.

    Slasher Saws In Action

One of the most popular slasher saw models on ForestryTrader is the Cutting Systems, Inc. (CSI) DL-4400. The DL-4400 is 166 inches (4,216.4 millimeters) long, 95 in. (2,413 mm) wide, and 88 in. (2,235 mm) in height and weighs 3,220 pounds (1,460 kilograms). It comes standard with a 59-in. (1,499-mm) saw bar and features an automatic chain oiler with a 4-gallon (15-liter) tank. The DL-4400 is built with tube and alloy steel for maximum durability and uses a bar and chain system to make quick and accurate cuts. It also features what CSI refers to as a DOG LEG (DL) saw box that offers improved visibility for the operator and extra grapple room.
