    About Track Mulchers

Also known as “brushcutters” and “masticators,” mulchers can clear large areas of underbrush, trees, and other vegetation, and are handy for dealing with invasive species and vegetation issues. A chief benefit of using any style of mulcher is that it replaces several other machines and eliminates the need to haul away or burn cleared growth, as a mulcher returns processed material to the ecosystem for decomposition. Using mulchers can thus greatly reduce manpower and equipment requirements while generating significant savings in cost and time. In many areas, operators can use mulchers year-round to generate more income.

    Rayco T415 Track Mulcher

A track mulcher is one of several varieties of mulchers used for forestry, land clearing, land reclamation, right-of-way, commercial and residential construction, oil and gas pipeline projects, wildlife restoration, conservation, and numerous other applications. Like track mulchers, wheel mulchers are self-propelled machines built expressly for clearing large areas of all kinds of vegetation. Other mulcher types include skid-steer and excavator mulchers, which are general-purpose machines equipped with mulcher head attachments. Each type has its own benefits and drawbacks.

    On Track

Track mulchers generally have greater horsepower and hydraulic power than other mulcher varieties, and have wider front-mounted mulcher heads, which means they can clear land faster than most other types, especially when working with thick, tough vegetation and small trees. This makes them well-suited for large land-clearing jobs, and although they move more slowly than wheel mulchers, track mulchers have better traction and are better-equipped to work in less favourable soil conditions. Tracks also spread the weight of the machine over a greater surface area, which usually results in less damage to the soil.

    Steer Clear Of Large Trees

Unlike an excavator and some tractor mulchers that use a mulcher head attached to an articulated boom to reach trees and growth from greater distances, purpose-built track mulchers generally push their way through trees and vegetation, mulching the growth as they pass over it. As such, while a track mulcher can typically cover a wider swath than, say, an excavator mulcher, it can’t mulch a standing, mature tree the way an excavator model can.
